IDPwD Promo’s
for ABC Nationally
December 3 is the United Nations' International Day for People with Disability (IDPwD), a day to increase awareness, understanding, and acceptance of people with disability.
I was thrilled to be asked to do the National promotion for ABC. Its certainly been a while since I’ve done voice over work but it is a medium I absolutely love.
Be Your Own Mentor
You.
The greatest relationship you can ever have is the one with yourself. Making the time to stop and reflect and appreciate all your extraordinary body does is the first step in learning to become your greatest supporter, your greatest fan.
Set the Stage
Take a blank notebook, dedicated just to this daily routine and write your title, eg ‘I am my Mentor’ or MEntor ( this notebook will become your hard copy for all the capturing of your thoughts, observations, ideas and plans!). I use this to write down my thoughts and look at what is dominating my mind, if its not constructive or conducive to the betterment of me, or the world around me, then I must release the thought patterns.
Your Experience CV
If you make a list of ALL your incredible achievements, I’m sure you would not only be impressed but also inspired by your ability and capability. Remember to include monumental moments, when your tenacity enabled you to walk and even run (all under the age of 5!) – when your first words quickly became sentences and then language, when you passed your driving test, wow! These are your FACTS, and powerful reminders of things you have done, overcome, are proud of.
You got you to now and you can get you to tomorrow – because you can’t delegate the amazing and uniquely complex abilities only you have. Afterall, we are our fingerprint, our code that is assigned just to us!
Your Space
Create a space that can offer a quiet place to ‘meet’ with yourself daily. It may feel strange at first, but once you get to know yourself better, I am sure you will enjoy this special time with all the depths and breadths that make you who you are. Have you ever looked into the mirror and said ‘hello’ to yourself? Even better, to say ‘I got you and ‘we’ will ‘do’ Life together in the most spectacular way we can.
Listen to You
Practice listening to your inner voice, your ‘gut instinct’ and build your relationship of Trust and Love for all you are and all you are to become. Just because I can’t feel the ground, doesn’t mean it’s not there is a mantra that I have developed to help me continue to trust myself to take a step on prosthetic legs.
Prepare your Path
One of the most transformational moments that informed my rehabilitation in hospital was sitting up, holding a glass and drinking water. This action was pivotal to building my confidence ( and experience CV ). I visualised this action for days. I learnt that our thoughts are powerful, they determine our actions or inactions and therefore deserve our attention.
Try feeding your ‘mind’ / your thoughts by increasing your input…. The more you learn, the more you appreciate how much there is to know, to understand, to be excited by is…..every day we are growing and expanding our ideas based on what we are exposing ourselves to….
Your Tool Bag
Have a kit bag ( tools ) of things that make you smile.... Your favourite song, a picture that makes you smile, a place you love to visit that you feel a connection with.... Use this when you need to recalibrate and get yourself in an internal space that is calm and in tune, ready to listen to you!
